Uthmani Minimal

Uthmani Minimal is a variant of Uthmani text from which extra diacritics and non-necessary symbols are removed. This text has arguably the minimum number of diacritics and symbols needed to read Quran correctly. While the script of this text is exactly the same as the Uthmani text, this text has on average 175 diacritics/symbols per page less than its equivalent in Madina Mushaf which makes it pretty cleaner and easier to read.

The unnecessary diacritics and symbols removed from Uthmani text to reach this minimal text are as follows:

• Short vowels before long vowels, like خَالِدُونَ ⇒ خالِدونَ.
• Sukun, like كُنْتُمْ ⇒ كُنتُم.
• Small sad above hamza_wasla, like ٱللَّهَ ⇒ اللَّهَ.
• Small circle showing non-read letters, like قَالُواْ ⇒ قالوا, and أُوْلَٰئِكَ ⇒ أُولٰئِكَ.
  • Note 1: Ambiguities are resolved by two simple rules: any ending alef after waw, and any waw between أُ and lam are non-read.
  • Note 2: In some unusual cases in Uthmani text, like جِاْيءَ, the small circle is kept to indicate that the letter is extra.
• Shadda showing Idgham, like لَكُمْ مّا ⇒ لَكُم ما.
• Small meem showing Ighlab, like مِنۢ بَعْدِ ⇒ مِن بَعدِ.
• Madda, like جَآءَ ⇒ جاءَ.
• Small yeh and small waw after pronoun heh, like بِهِۦ ⇒ بِهِ, and لَهُۥ ⇒ لَهُ.
